The Church Did Not Need to Be Restored—It Never Left

Mormonism claims that Christ’s true church vanished from the earth after the apostles and needed to be restored by Joseph Smith in the 1800s. However, the Bible teaches that Christ’s church would never disappear. Isaiah 9:7 declares that Christ’s government and peace will have “no end.” Ephesians 3:21 says, “to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever.” Jesus Himself promised, “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it” (Matthew 16:18). Nowhere does Scripture suggest a 2,000-year gap in Christ’s reign or the church’s existence.

Furthermore, for something to be restored it must first exist. There is no evidence that anybody taught LDS doctrine in the 1st Century.

Throughout history, even in times of judgment, God always preserved a faithful remnant—Noah’s family, Lot, and the 7,000 in Elijah’s day. God’s power and promise ensure that His church endures, even if small or persecuted. The idea that the church vanished and needed restoration contradicts both the words of Christ and the consistent witness of Scripture. The true church, founded on Christ the Rock, has always existed and will continue until He returns. Restoration is unnecessary for something that was never lost
