Pre-Existence or Gods foreknowledge?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), teach that all people existed as spirit beings before being born on earth. They claim that humans were begotten and raised by heavenly parents in a premortal existence before receiving physical bodies. However, the Bible does not support this doctrine. Instead, Scripture teaches that only God is eternal, and that humans come into existence at conception.

The Bible clearly states that God forms each person in the womb (Isaiah 44:24; Zechariah 12:1), and that our spirits are created within our bodies. Psalm 139:16 affirms that God saw our “unformed substance” and ordained our days before any of them began, but it does not suggest we existed beforehand. Romans 4:17 further emphasizes that God “calls into being that which does not exist,” showing that humans do not pre-exist their earthly lives.

God’s foreknowledge—His ability to know us and our futures before we are born—should not be confused with pre-existence. For example, God named Cyrus long before his birth (Isaiah 44:28–45:1), but this was due to God’s omniscience, not because Cyrus existed prior to his conception. The biblical view is that humans are created by God at the moment of conception, and our value and purpose come from being known and formed by Him, not from a supposed pre-earthly existence.
