The Bible and Science

Throughout history, the Bible has demonstrated a unique authority—not only in its fulfilled prophecies, but also in its remarkable alignment with scientific facts long before their discovery by humanity. While the Bible is not a science textbook, it contains statements that pre-date scientific knowledge by centuries or even millennia, suggesting a divine source of inspiration.

For example, the book of Job, written nearly 2,000 years before Christ, describes the earth as being “hung on nothing” (Job 26:7), a truth only confirmed by modern space exploration. Job also notes that air has weight (Job 28:25), a fact not discovered by scientists until the 17th century. Leviticus 17:11 declares, “the life of the flesh is in the blood,” a truth about blood’s vital role in life that was not understood until modern medicine, and tragically ignored in practices like bloodletting.

The Bible also describes the water cycle in Job 36:27-30, centuries before scientists understood evaporation and precipitation. It mentions springs in the ocean (Job 38:16), a phenomenon only discovered in the 1970s, and describes the circular patterns of wind (Ecclesiastes 1:6), which modern meteorology has confirmed. Isaiah 44:24 speaks of the “stretching out” of the heavens, echoing today’s understanding of an expanding universe.

These examples show that the Bible contains knowledge far beyond the understanding of its human authors. While science and the Bible are not in conflict, the Bible’s advanced insights point to its divine origin. Its accuracy in both prophecy and scientific detail invites honest seekers to consider its claim to be the true Word of God.
