The Watchtower claimed to be a prophet of God
Many of us have encountered Jehovah’s Witnesses, sincere people who are often seen sharing literature from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. While their dedication is admirable, sincerity alone does not guarantee truth. The central question is: Is the Watchtower Society a true prophet of God?
The Watchtower has openly claimed to be God’s prophetic channel, asserting that Jehovah’s Witnesses are the only group dispensing spiritual truth today. However, the Bible gives us a clear test for a true prophet: “When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him” (Deuteronomy 18:22).
History shows that the Watchtower has made numerous specific predictions that did not come to pass. For example, in the early 20th century, they predicted that biblical figures like Abraham and Isaac would be resurrected in 1925 and that “millions now living will never die.” These prophecies failed, marking the organization as a false prophet by biblical standards.
As Christians, we are called to speak the truth in love (1 Peter 3:15). Jehovah’s Witnesses are not our enemies; they are people whom God loves and desires to know the truth. We must gently point them to Jesus, the true Prophet and Savior, and encourage them to test all teachings by the unchanging Word of God.
